Charlize Theron talks candidly about her personal life.
The actress, 47, spoke with Harper’s Bazaar about her October cover issue revolving around parenting, navigating the dating world and her experiences after 25 years in Hollywood.
“I feel like I’m in a place where it is what it is,” Theron said of her career. “I think working more isn’t going to change my level of fame. It’s always been a humbling journey. I’ve never been one of those people on Kim Kardashian’s level. But I feel like it’s always been that thing.”
Theron grew up on a farm in South Africa, outside of Johannesburg. At the age of 16, she came to America to start her modeling career, which was the beginning of a leap in her career.

“I wasn’t raised in America, so I kind of always find myself trying to keep my head above water with the school system and exams, because it’s not very familiar to me,” Theron said. “My education was very different from what my kids get in America. And so there’s a lot of bells and whistles. that accompanies being a parent I did not grow up with.”
The “Mad Max” star touched on what Hollywood was like when she started her career and said she had to be “loud” to be noticed.
“The majority of my twenties and thirties, and the way I grew up, were quite a lot… It was a time when you had to be hustling to find some space in the room,” she said. “I don’t necessarily like being that person, but there has certainly been a time in my life where that was the only way I knew how to function.”
Besides being a single mother devoted to her two daughters: Jackson, 10 and August, 7 over the past decade, she has found a balance in raising her children and balancing her career. The “Monster” actress adopted her two children.
Charlize Theron considers leaving America: ‘Racism is so much more than being alive and well’
“It consumes everything,” she said. “There are moments with my kids where I’m sitting, yeah, in the car and they’re in the back and I’ve stopped because I don’t want to miss a call. But I like it. I don’t think I could do it if I didn’t like it.”
Theron launched her own production company, Denver and Delilah, in 2003. “Having absolutely no control over what she wears is a big thing that really bothered my f-king for years,” she said of her career before launching her company.
“Having someone makes you almost put a piece in front of them—stuff like that, it really underestimates them. When I started, there was no conversation about it. It was like, ‘That’s what you wear.'” And I remember one movie in particular, this male director who just kept getting me, fit after makeup after makeup after…and it was very clear that it was about my sexuality and how it could get me into a movie. And when I started, that was just kind of the norm Theron explained.
Making a change in the entertainment industry isn’t something the actress has long taken lightly.

“There is a natural battle in me to want to create environments that are similar to the things I wish I had 30 years ago when I started,” she said. The Old Guard, which Theron produced, had an 85 percent female cast and crew, which she said she was proud of.
Playing her role as producer, Theron said, “I don’t always get it right, but I totally get to look at the big picture and say, ‘Is this really the best we can do? “
Besides being a single mother, and balancing her Hollywood career, she has also found time to be a devoted fan of the reality show “The Real Housewives”.
“I always say to my kids, ‘Just diversify a little,’ and my little one will go, ‘Will you ever watch Housewives again?’ And I said, “Yes, I am. … We’ll see Fellini a little later,” she said.

The “Bombshell” actress, who has been a single mother for the past decade, said that she is currently single and has no intention of getting married at all.
“During COVID, someone was interested in doing this thing with me,” she said. “It was just a deep dive into a relationship. And I was just like that, I don’t know if I wanted to…just feel like I’m out of practice.”
