Jennifer Lopez shares new details about Ben Affleck’s wedding, including their children’s roles

Jennifer Lopez revealed private details about her and Ben Affleck’s wedding last month.

Lopez summed up the weekend of the newlyweds’ extravagant wedding in a newsletter she sent to her fans on Thursday.

“Ben and I laughed the night before we got married again at our age,” she wrote. “We’ve been married before and not quite children anymore, but somehow now it seemed like we were the only age that made sense.”

Lopez previously tied the knot with Marc Anthony in 2004. The two, who separated in 2014, share 14-year-old twins Amy and Maximilian. She was also previously married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, and Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003.

Affleck married Jennifer Garner in 2005. They separated in 2018 and have three children: Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10.

In her newsletter, the “Hustlers” star recalled reading Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke’s book “Letter to a Young Poet.” She said Rilke wrote that loving someone else is a challenge. She agreed and explained, “To be able to love someone so that you want to be better for them and make them happy, because giving happiness and love becomes more joyful than receiving it, is true love sublime for adults.”

On August 20, Lopez and Affleck said “I do” at the “Gone Girl” actor’s estate on the Hampton Island Preserve near Savannah, Georgia.

Lopez painted a picturesque scene of her walking down the aisle.

“The sun was set free and shining like little diamonds dancing across the river behind the makeshift altar in our backyard,” she said. “As the sun set behind live Spanish moss-clad oaks, a warm breeze swept across the grass where our closest relatives and friends sat, and at long last, I began walking down the stairs that would become the path that would lead me toward the rest of my life. Ahhhhh… It was already happening.. .”

She then described their reception as a “full divine circle” moment.

The singer shared it over 20 years ago—when the couple first dated in the early 2000s and got engaged in 2002—she and Affleck talked about “the perfect wedding love song” in the same Georgia home.

They chose the romantic song “True Companion” by Mark Coon as their song and Lopez asked the musician to perform it at weddings.

However, Lopez slipped down the aisle to “The Things We Handed” for being instead because she said it was “a song about a wonderful children’s riddle—something we could only guess at the time, but it was the perfect choice because our five kids walked past me.”

She continued, “The twenty years between the dreams of youth and the world of love and the adult family we embraced that day, brought about this marriage more than any of us could have imagined. We weren’t just marrying each other, we were marrying these kids into a new family.”

Their children were the only wedding guests who were asked to “stand up” for Affleck and Lopez and the couple were honored by doing so.

After seeing Violet walking down the aisle and (eventually) hearing “the true companion,” Lopez said, “Life came, strangely, beautiful, mysterious, completely divine.”

The director of “Argo” told his bride that watching her walk towards him seemed unbelievable and a palpable fantasy.

“When he saw me going up the stairs at that moment, it made perfect sense while it seemed hard to believe, like the best dream, where all you want is to never wake up,” she said.

Lopez joked that she would have shared the same sentiments if she hadn’t been more focused on not tripping over her Ralph Lauren Couture gown.

“Some old wounds of that day were healed, and the weight of the past was finally lifted off our shoulders,” she added.

During the reception, Affleck referred to a line from his 2016 movie “Live by Night” in his speech.

“This is heaven,” he told their guests and Lopez. “‘Here. We’re in it now.'”

I shared the same feeling. “And I thought…how perfect,” she said.

The Georgia ceremony was the second time they confessed their love to each other. They actually got their marriage license in Clark County, Nevada, in July.

After their wedding in Las Vegas, Lopez changed her married name to Jennifer Affleck, according to court documents.
