iPhone 14 Max: It’s a great move for Apple after the “mini” failure, which is why I’m all for it

The Apple’s iPhone 14 series event is near, and the excitement (or lack thereof, depending on where you stand on Apple) is growing!

In any case, there are two important and interesting changes Apple is making to its flagship iPhone lineup this year – first, no more iPhone mini, and second, a new model just called “Max” – the iPhone 14 Max (or iPhone 14 Plus according to the latest rumor) .

No, it’s not the iPhone 14 Pro Max, it’s a separate phone. Apple gives us a much cheaper big phone, so if you want only the “Max” part of the “Pro Max” iPhone – you’ll finally have the option to get it, without paying for all the “Pro” stuff.

Confused yet? Don’t worry, let me explain it to you, and tell you why this new iPhone is actually the right move for a lot of people, myself included…

But first, here’s why my iPhone “mini” stopped working after just a couple of iterations…

The “mini” is out! Because small phones aren’t worth it for Apple (even the iPhone SE performs poorly)

So the iPhone 12 mini and The iPhone 13 mini didn’t just sell like the larger iPhones. The two iPhone minis reportedly covered a sales share of just 3% each, in their respective generations.

Now, I love small iPhones, but their users are clearly in the minority in the grand scheme of things, so it comes as no surprise to me that Apple decided to give the ax to the “mini” line, only two generations later.

As much as the Cupertino company wants to be seen as a maker of devices that satisfy users on an emotional level, at the end of the day – it’s a company, and if something isn’t making money, especially at this level of low sales – Apple will drop it.

Which, by the way, is very different from Samsung, which may have retired the Note for being a niche stylus phone, but still found a way to keep its spirit alive, just under a different name (Galaxy S22 Ultra).

Anyway, now that a slot for the iPhone 14 series has been opened, what kind of phone will fill it? Small phones obviously don’t work with Apple, so…a new big phone is!

Max is in! Some people (like me) love big phones, big screens, and big batteries, but they don’t necessarily want to pay big extra for “Pro” bells and whistles.

According to many accounts, the new iPhone 14 Max model is coming, not to be confused with iPhone 14 Pro Max. It looks like the new “Max” iPhone will simply do exactly what the “mini” did and offer basic specs, but in a different size shape than the base iPhone.

The iPhone 14 Max will probably be the exact size of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but it’s cheaper, because it won’t offer any “Pro” features or even a third camera sensor, just like the iPhone 14. It’ll also keep the notch, just like the base iPhone 14 , while the more expensive Pro models will be replaced by cutouts. So what you get is just a bigger screen and a bigger battery – but nothing new otherwise.

If you like big phones, but don’t want to pay extra for “Pro” bells and whistles – this would be the iPhone for you! Stay tuned to our coverage of next week’s Apple event on September 7th for full official details on this big new beast!

But for now, we already have a file iPhone 14 Max preview for you to check out, if you want to know more.

Personally, as someone who loves bulky phones as much as I love small ones, I consider this new iPhone model to be the right thing for Apple to try next. I want a big screen, I want a big battery, yet I don’t want to pay “Pro” prices for features I’ll never need or use, like a third camera, LiDAR sensor, or clear astrophotography coming to the new iPhone 14 Pro models.

The late great Steve Jobs was right about many things, but smartphones that need to be kept small were clearly not one of them.

It’s clear that people are gravitating towards big phones these days, as we’ve grown to rely on them for everything over the past two decades – from communicating with others, through entertainment, to work.

And all this ideally requires a screen of a reasonable size, and not small. Heck, even just texting on the iPhone 13 mini was a bit tricky for me, given its size…

So, the way I see it, Apple is doing the right thing not just for people like me, but for itself as a company. I’ve tried small phones and they’ve done poorly on sales, but a great, affordable, big phone – now it should sell well!

In fact, I’m willing to bet that the new iPhone 14 Max has the potential to outperform this generation’s iPhone 14 Pro Max, as it’s reasonable to assume that most people bought earlier “Pro Max” models just because they were bigger, not so much because They have any “pro” features that are worth spending extra money on.

But we’ll see, right? In fact, why not share what you think – is the iPhone 14 Max a good idea in your opinion, or do you think it will fail?

Interested in the new iPhone 14 Max model? Or do you find it redundant, confusing, and a bad idea?

Are you in the market where Apple decided to try coverage after the Mini didn’t meet their expectations? The market for those who like big phones with big batteries, but don’t want to pay more for “Pro” features they may or may never use?

Or do you think Apple is clearly testing the waters, throwing things at the wall to see what’s hanging, and that new Max model will also disappoint in sales like the Mini?
