It’s clear that Jay-Z has God beyond his wildest dreams.
He is not only a world famous rapper (and husband of THEE Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter), but also a successful producer and entrepreneur, with a net worth of $1.3 billion.
Coming where he came from, there’s a lot to be proud of – but not everyone is impressed by his success.
In fact, Jay is often accused of being a capitalist, and his only focus, oftentimes, seems to be solely on growing his fortune – no matter the situation.
Well, he finally addressed that criticism this week on Twitter Spaces — and basically likened it to a way for people to stifle black entrepreneurs.
“We did not stop” began. “Hip-hop is young. It’s still growing. We don’t fall for this trick that the public is putting out there now.”
He continued, “Before that was the American dream: ‘Pull yourself through your boots. You can make it happen in America’.” They began to invent words like ‘capitalist’.”
Jay suggested, to him, that this was like calling someone a racial slur. He continued, “We’ve been called ‘n ******’ and ‘monkeys and shit’.” I don’t care what words you come up with. You must come up with stronger words. We won’t stop.”
Explaining his “development” from a young man selling CDs in New York to now one of the richest people in America, he stated that no one should be made “to be ashamed of being successful in place of setting up a system for [Black people] to be dead at 21” and shared his hope that he would continue to find new financial opportunities.
That frankly prompted more exposure, especially the part where he compared being called a capitalist to being called racial slur.
Jay-Z did not respond to the subsequent backlash, but something tells me we might hear more about this later in one of the verses. we will see.
