Raising two young children with a man accused of rape, sexual assault, molestation, and potentially cannibalism couldn’t be easy. But according to Elizabeth Chambers, she and her estranged husband Armie Hammer are “in a really cool place” as they work to finalize their divorce.
Chambers told E! News. “We are fully and completely committed to our children, and to be together as often as possible in a non-romantic way for our children.” She shares 7-year-old Harper and 4-year-old Ford with the actor and time share salesman. “Children need their mother; children need their father. So there is nothing we will not do.”
Chambers has avoided speaking publicly about Hammer for nearly two years, since he has been publicly accused of having multiple relationships that include non-consensual sexual acts – including rape in one case – violence and emotional abuse. He has denied all charges. Chambers addressed the reports on her Instagram in February 2021, saying she was “shocked, saddened, and devastated” about the allegations against her husband and supported “any victim of abuse or abuse”. Since then, her Instagram has focused mostly on photos of her children and her life in the Cayman Islands, and she has refrained from commenting on anything related to Hammer, including rape allegations made by a woman known as Evie, which she is believed to be. The same woman who initiated the allegations against Hammer from the @houseofeffie Instagram account in January 2021. Hammer denied the allegations via his attorney, Andrew Brettler, who said diverse In a statement, “Mr. Hammer confirmed that all of his interactions with [Effie] — and every other sexual partner he has for that matter — has been completely consensual.”
In her new interview, Chambers again refrained from responding directly to any specific allegations against Hammer, though she vaguely admitted that she had heard “a few surprises” in the past few years. She also revealed that she actually watched documentaries hammer house, which included disturbing voice notes allegedly sent by Hammer to the women. Chambers declined to be involved in the document and originally said she would not watch it. “Obviously it was heartbreaking on so many levels and so painful. But it’s there at the same time,” she told E! News.
For her, the healing included “healing the voice” and “breaking through the intentions of writing” as well as “burning things, putting them in the ocean, praying on my own, walking on the beach with my children.” For Hammer, that meant rehabilitation. In June of last year, it was reported that Hammer had entered a six-month rehab program for “drug, alcohol and sex issues”. As for how this might affect their joint parenting, Chambers kept it a mystery, saying, “Army has been focused on his recovery.” Using the metaphor of an airplane, she described him as focusing on putting on his oxygen mask before helping others. “He was too busy securing his mask.” She added that she helps Hammer “be the best father to our children” but also made sure to separate herself from his life outside of parenting. “He’s obviously tackling everything else he’s dealing with personally – and that’s his own journey now.”
